Is the Honda Plus Extended Warranty Worth It?
An honest look at when the plan pays off and when it does not. The short answer: it is worth it for some owners and not for others.
Updated October 29, 2026. Honda facts from Honda Canada.
Is the Honda Plus extended warranty worth it?
Honda Plus, the extended warranty of Honda Canada Inc., is worth it for some Canadian owners and not for others. It depends on three things: how long you will keep the car, how many kilometres you drive, and how much an unexpected repair bill, in Canadian dollars, would hurt.
Our interest, stated plainly. We sell Honda Plus, so weigh our view accordingly. Every fact about Honda Plus here comes from Honda Canada; the one outside source is named where we cite it. Is it legit? How to check.
So is a Honda extended warranty worth it in Canada? For the right owner, yes. For others, no. New to it? Start with what Honda Plus is.
An extended warranty protects you from a large, unplanned repair bill. It is not a way to save money on average, and you may never use it. We have no sourced average repair cost to share.
This site is about the Honda Plus Extended Warranty for Canadian-market Honda cars, SUVs, minivans and trucks. Prices are in Canadian dollars and distances in kilometres. It is not a U.S. program.
What does Honda Plus add to the factory warranty?
Honda’s factory warranty gives you 3 years / 60,000 km of basic coverage and 5 years / 100,000 km on the powertrain. Honda Plus extends that to up to 8 years / 200,000 km, whichever comes first. Plan terms include the factory warranty, so “8 years” means 8 years of total coverage counted from delivery, not 8 extra years on top.
| Coverage | Years / kilometres |
|---|---|
| Factory warranty, basic | 3 years / 60,000 km |
| Factory warranty, powertrain | 5 years / 100,000 km |
| Honda Plus extended warranty | Up to 8 years or 200,000 km, whichever comes first. A 10-year / 160,000 km plan is also offered. |
Kilometres can end a warranty before years do
Distance can matter more than owners expect. Drive 25,000 km a year, for example, and you reach 60,000 km in about 2.4 years, before the three years are up, so the basic warranty ends on distance, not time. At 20,000 km a year, both limits arrive together at three years. That is an example, not a statistic.
Honda Plus extends both limits, to up to 8 years / 200,000 km. It still ends at whichever limit you reach first.

What makes a purchase easier to live with?
Four Honda Plus terms lower the risk of regret: $0 deductible on a covered component breakdown, free transfer under most conditions, a 30-day full refund, and roadside help. None can tell you whether you will need the plan.

Costs that arrive at the wrong moment
A repair bill is hardest to absorb when you are far from home and the trip is the plan. These terms are about how the contract treats you if that day comes.
-
Deductible
$0 deductible on a covered component breakdown. Repairs the contract excludes remain your cost.
-
Transfer
Transferable under most conditions, at no cost. The transfer happens automatically when the Honda factory warranty is transferred to the new owner.
-
Cancellation
30 days
Cancel for any reason within 30 days of the plan purchase date for a 100% refund, through the Honda dealer. Refund terms after 30 days are in your contract.
-
Roadside assistance
Roadside assistance, 24/7, is extended at no extra cost.
-
Trip interruption
$500
Trip interruption limit, per incident. It applies when a breakdown happens more than 100 km from home.
When is Honda Plus not worth it?
Honda Plus may not be worth it if you will sell or trade the car before its factory warranty ends, would rather set money aside, or drive very little. In those cases, skipping it is a sensible choice.
You will sell or trade soon. If you part with the car while the factory warranty still runs, a plan has little time to matter. Free transfer under most conditions helps, but we would not buy a plan for that alone.
You would rather self-insure. If you can absorb a large bill without stress, a repair fund is a fair choice. You keep the money if nothing breaks, and you pay in full if something does.
You drive very little. The plan ends by time, counted from delivery, whether or not you reach the kilometre limit. Ask how many years would remain for your vehicle.
How can you tell if Honda Plus is worth it for you?
Check eligibility first, then answer four questions about your own situation. Mostly “yes” means a quote is worth asking for. Mostly “no” means you can reasonably skip it. A mix is a close call, and an advisor can help talk it through.
Honda’s rule, not a reading from your vehicle.
First, check that your vehicle qualifies. Canadian-market vehicles up to 5 model years old and under 100,000 km. Both conditions must be met. If it does not, skip the questions below. Check how much coverage your vehicle has left.
Model years 2022 and 2023 require a Honda Plus vehicle inspection certificate. Above 100,000 km, Honda refers to a separate Honda Plus price list for used vehicles. Your advisor will tell you what applies.
- Will you keep the car beyond its factory warranty?
- Basic coverage runs 3 years / 60,000 km, the powertrain 5 years / 100,000 km. The longer you keep the car after that, the more a plan can matter.
- Do kilometres, not years, end your warranty first?
- If you reach the factory kilometre limits before the years run out, distance is your limit.
- Would a large, unplanned repair bill be hard to absorb?
- If so, protection set in advance has more value. If not, setting money aside is a fair alternative.
- Do roadside assistance and trip interruption matter to you?
- Think of long highway drives and cottage weekends. Roadside assistance, 24/7, is extended at no extra cost.

Does timing matter?
Honda Plus is counted from your vehicle’s original delivery date, at 0 km, not from the day you buy the plan, so the longer you wait, the less coverage you buy.
- Basic factory warranty: 3 years / 60,000 km
- Powertrain: 5 years / 100,000 km
- Honda Plus: up to 8 years / 200,000 km
Example only, not a quote: on an 8-year / 200,000 km plan, a vehicle that is already 3 years and 60,000 km old has at most 5 years / 140,000 km of Honda Plus coverage left.

Does the price change from one dealer to another?
It can. The contract is the same wherever you buy it, but Honda’s own price list says the dealer may sell for less. See how the price is set, or read why it is cheaper here.
