A breakdown is where a claim begins
If your Honda cannot be driven, a tow takes it to a repair shop. The four steps below set out what Honda asks you to do first.
What do I do after a breakdown?
Honda’s FAQ lists four steps to follow if a breakdown occurs. They are set out below in our words, and the Service Provision governs the details.
-
Protect the vehicle
Honda asks you to protect the vehicle from further damage.
-
Stop if a warning light comes on
If a warning, oil or temperature light comes on, Honda says to stop using the vehicle.
-
Have it taken to a Honda dealer
Your coverage is attached to your VIN, not to the dealer who sold you the plan. The claim itself is set out in how to make a claim.
-
If it cannot be moved, call roadside
Honda’s roadside line is 1-800-465-PLUS (7587), open 24 hours. This is the roadside line Honda gives to Honda Plus customers. It is not our sales number. See what Honda Plus roadside assistance includes.
How do I make a claim?
For a covered repair, have your Honda taken to the Honda dealer of your choice. The Honda Plus Service Provision, the contract you receive at purchase, sets out all terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions.

Paperwork first
Gather your contract, your VIN and your service records before you file. The list below says what each one is for.
What to have with you
- Your contract. The Service Provision you received at purchase prevails over every summary, including this page. If you cannot find it, call an advisor.
- Your VIN. It is on your registration and insurance papers.
- Your service records. Keep them. Ask an advisor which proof the Service Provision requires before you file.
If you repair outside Canada
You pay for the repair first, and Magog Honda, your selling dealership, reimburses eligible claims.
What you pay
$0 deductible on a covered component breakdown. Repairs that the contract excludes remain your cost.
The same applies in the continental U.S. Before you travel, ask your advisor how to send in a reimbursement request. See also how Honda Plus works.
- While the repair is under way
- If a covered repair takes more than 5 hours in total, you may be entitled to a rental car under the Honda Plus rental provisions.
- If it happens far from home
- Trip interruption: up to $500 per incident if a breakdown happens more than 100 km from home, less any car-rental reimbursement.
- Not sure a repair is covered?
- An advisor can help you read your contract. Call 1-800-000-0000.
Can I cancel Honda Plus, and what do I get back?
Yes. Cancel for any reason within 30 days of the plan purchase date for a 100% refund, through the Honda dealer. Refund terms after 30 days are in your contract. If you bought your plan from Magog Honda, that is the dealership to contact.
- Cancel for any reason within
- 30 days of purchase
- Refund inside that window
- 100% full refund
How to cancel
- Count from the purchase date
- Honda’s 30 days run from the plan purchase date, not from your vehicle’s delivery date.
- Call the selling dealership first
- Honda says the refund goes through the Honda dealer. Call Magog Honda on 1-800-000-0000 as soon as you decide, and note the date.
- Put it in writing
- Send your cancellation in writing and keep a copy that shows the date. Your advisor confirms the channel to use.
- Receive your refund
- Your advisor confirms how and when the money reaches you.
Quebec residents
If you live in Quebec, the Consumer Protection Act (art. 228.3) gives you the right to cancel an extended warranty contract within 10 days, at no cost and with no penalty, by written notice. This is separate from Honda’s 30-day refund. The Act may give you other rights too, and your advisor explains them before you agree.
Can I transfer my Honda Plus warranty if I sell my car?
Yes, under most conditions. Honda Plus, the extended warranty program of Honda Canada Inc., can be transferred from you to the buyer of your vehicle at no cost. The transfer happens automatically when the Honda factory warranty is transferred to the new owner.

-
No cost to transfer
Honda charges nothing to move the contract from you to the buyer.
-
It follows the factory warranty transfer
Honda says the transfer of a Honda Plus is done automatically when the Honda factory warranty is transferred into the new owner’s name.
-
How much term remains
Coverage is counted from the vehicle’s original delivery date. The Service Provision sets out how a transfer affects the remaining term, so ask an advisor how much the buyer would receive. See how coverage is counted.
-
“Under most conditions” is Honda’s wording
The Service Provision sets the conditions. Check it, or ask an advisor, before you list the vehicle.

What happens if I move to another province?
Moving within Canada changes nothing. Honda says your Honda Plus coverage remains valid if you change your address within Canada, and repairs are still done at the Honda dealer of your choice.
Same plan, new address. You do not buy a new plan because you moved.
Travel outside Canada. Honda Plus applies in Canada and the continental U.S. Repairs outside Canada follow the claim steps above.
Let the dealership that sold you the plan know your new address, so your contact details stay current.
Frequently asked questions
Claims, transfer, cancellation and moving are answered above. One more question comes up often.
Do I have to service my car at a Honda dealer to keep the plan valid?
Maintain your vehicle as Honda recommends in the owner’s manual to keep the plan in effect. Honda’s published summary does not say where that work must be done, so the Service Provision has the final word. Read it, or ask an advisor, before you choose where to service your car.
